Because of our size, I suppose, Bloodhounds are incredibly strong. This could be a good or bad thing. With search and rescue efforts, a Bloodhound must be strong. This strength is what keeps the rescue effort alive. Our size and strength play an important role in having the endurance to continue the search. BUT...if we're talking about just play or walking, our strength is a downer. Too often, we get rough during play. We just get excited. An adult can usually subdue us if necessary, but children may do not have the capability to do that. Bloodhounds would never, never, never intentionally hurt a child. We absolutely adore them, but during play, we get rough and should never be left alone to play with little children. On swipe of my paw could require stitches. Young children should never be allowed to walk a Bloodhound. Within moments, a Bloodhound will be walking, I mean dragging the child. Again, this is not an "on purpose" thing; it is just our nature to put our nose down, get a scent of something and take off. Bloodhound owners may even joke that the arm in which they hold the leash is longer than the other! This is what happens when I get walked by a child. Now, the boy in these pictures are my brother, Corey. He's 12 and weighs over a hundred pounds, but I even get the best of him! Take a look for yourself...
